1. Understanding Natural Onyx
Green Onyx is a semi-translucent stone defined by bands of jade, cream and rust. It is formed through calcium carbonate precipitation in cold-water springs, making it more crystalline and fragile than standard marble. We hand-select blocks that feature clear concentric banding.
2. Translucency and Backlighting
The most important property of onyx is its translucency. When cut to a specific thickness, light can pass directly through the stone. This makes Green Onyx suitable for candle holders, backlit displays and statement centerpieces where light interaction is key.
3. Machining Constraints for Onyx
Due to its crystalline structure, onyx is brittle and prone to micro-fractures during heavy CNC routing. Our engineers carefully adapt cutting speeds and use specialized diamond tooling to shape onyx into elegant forms without shattering. It requires delicate handling and reinforced packaging for export.
Sourcing Note
Onyx products require careful material selection and handling. MOQ is typically lower (50-100 pieces), but lead times may be slightly longer.
